Technical service

Through continuous technological innovation and product development, ALD is committed to providing customers with high quality products and services

Dear Customer:
Thank you for purchasing and using our metallic powder products!
In order to make the metallic powder present colorful and special color effects, we will use some special pigments and special proportions in the powder processing process, which will make the coating characteristics of this powder different from ordinary plain powder. In order to make it easier for you to better use ALD’s metallic powder and paint your products, it is recommended that you refer to the following painting construction tips based on our experience. I hope you read carefully before using the powder and can be useful in your work.
Thank you.
  • About products with strong scintillation metal effect

In order to achieve sufficient metallic scintillation effect, a certain amount of large-particle metallic pigments is added to the powder, and the particle size of some metallic pigments may reach 50μm or more; due to the addition of more metallic pigments, the metallic pigments have a large particle size, which will make the charging performance of the powder different from ordinary powder coating.

We suggest: use a method different from ordinary powder coatings to spray

    Possible phenomena:

    1. The coating ratio is reduced;

    2. Due to the special structure shape of some spare parts, the metal powder effect of some parts will be different from the conventional flat surface, and the color will be blurred.

    Suggested Application Tips

    1. According to our experience, it is recommended to reduce the electrostatic voltage by maintaining the current at about 15μA, and reduce the powder output accordingly. Reduce the coating rate and then spray the product.

    2. For conventional powder coating, the high voltage and high current state of the spray gun will cause the metal particles to be arrayed upright, which will cause the roughness or bad leveling of the powder coating surface after curing.

In the debugging of metallic colors, the powders that is composed of more than 2 different hues are used, is usually called champagne powder

Since this effect is a color effect formed by different types of metallic pigments in a certain proportion, any change in the proportion of metallic pigments will cause the color of the powder coating to change.

It is particularly worth mentioning that for different batches of powder, there must be a tolerance for the difference between the upper and lower limits. The recycling of such powders is of particular concern.

We suggest that the ratio of the new powder to the old powder is 3:1 or less, and the ratio must be fixed to maintain the stability of the color.

For pure silver or metal powder colored with pure metallic pigments, since the base powder is transparent or semi-transparent, there will be a problem of covering the substrate.

Relative to the surface color of the substrate caused by different pretreatments (such as the rainbow color of iron-based phosphating), it is usually necessary to increase the thickness of the coating to compensate.

If there are strict requirements for the consistency of the surface color, it is recommended to paint a base powder that can cover the color of the substrate.
